We did it! We submitted ourselves to black, sticky fingers today for the sake of sending our fingerprints to the state along with notarized releases so our background checks can be done. It was really easy... we thought we'd take up all of Gil's lunch hour by running to the security place to get our fingerprints done and then have to run across town for a notary to sign the other papers but the lady at the security place asked us when we gave her our fingerprint cards if we needed anything notarized because they have a notary on the premises. How convenient is that?! So after a few more signatures on four other pieces of paper (for each of us!), everything is in the mail. Now, we just wait for the background check and approval to proceed. Children's Services will call us to schedule a first home-study visit. With all the home remodeling we've been doing in the past two years, we still have a few finishing touches to make our home "ready" by state standards... things like additional smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, fire escape plans, gun safe, etc. Hopefully, we can get into the next round of preparation classes in August.
